~ARTWORK DETAILS~
Title of Artwork: Flower’s Authority
Description: A Gongbi-style watercolor of the Mudan flower, the “king of flowers” in China—symbolizing honor, wealth, love, and feminine beauty.
Calligraphy Background: It is a poem by a famous poet, essayist, and artist in the Song Dynasty named Su Shi which describes the beauty of the Mudan flower but more about the beauty of a young lady with the flower in her hands.
Calligraphy Meaning: “Jade chambers, golden pistils, best held in the delicate hands of a jade-like beauty. The faint moonlight is hazy. And there’s a gentle breeze playing with the sleeves. Warm fragrance, ripe and beautiful. Intoxicated, the cloud-like hair falls over both ears. Many thanks to the craftsmanship of spring. It’s not the red of flowers, but the red of jade.”
